Up the Mount

Up the Mount

I found a new chapter in the Bible that I love!  Exodus 19; when the Israelites come to Mount Sinai.  There’s just so much gold in it!  I mean, there’s gold everywhere in the Bible, but Exodus 19 really jumped out to me recently.

First off, it says that Moses went up the mountain to God, and God called to him from the mountain (verse 3).  Moses was intentional about seeking the Lord out!  Most of the time nowadays, we have to intentionally stop our lives and seek God out.  If we don’t seek Him with intentionality, then there’s a good chance we’ll miss Him.

Second, God describes to Moses how He sees the Israelites (verses 4-6).  He says that He carried them on eagles’ wings, and brought them to His mountain.  That’s a lovely picture!!  God brought His people out of bondage, set them soaring on wings of eagles, and brought them to the foot of His mountain; the place where He was dwelling.  The Lord also said that if they only obey Him and are faithful to His terms, then they, out of all the nations in the world, will be God’s own special possession.  They will be His kingdom of priests and His holy nation.  That’s not the only cool part!  God didn’t just say that about the Israelites; He said that about us too!

We are His special possession, we are His royal priesthood, and we are His holy nation (1 Pet 2:9)!!

Next, down in verse nine, God said, “I am coming to you in a storm cloud so that the people will hear Me speaking with you and will always believe you.”  When I read that, I took notice of the song I had on in the background; “Surrounded (Fight My Battles)” by UPPERROOM.  Suddenly it hit me!  Though it may look like there’s a storm all around me; (and there is!) God is in that storm, speaking to me.  Part of the lyrics to the song goes like this… “It may look like I’m surrounded, but I’m surrounded by You!”  This verse brought a whole new meaning to the song for me!!

Lastly, in verse 20 it says that the Lord came down on top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain.  So, Moses went up.  I want that to be my response whenever the Lord may be calling me away.  To chase after my Beloved just as He chases after me!  I want to follow Him wherever He goes.  He is my Father, He is my Friend, and He is my Lover.
