Be Ready
Last week we went hiking up Mount Helena in Montana. *I died.* Fifteen minutes into it my legs were tired, my heart was pounding, my head was throbbing, and a thick layer of mucus was constantly in my mouth… (Sorry for T.M.I., but I need to give you the full picture. XD) The thought had crossed my mind that I might actually pass out! But I didn’t.
I asked our friend, “Are we almost half way?” She looked at me with sympathy… “No…” UGHHHH…… I am so outta shape! So, we trudged on—or rather, *I* trudged on. We finally made it to the half way point, where I came back to life for a few minutes. We enjoyed the little cave there, then set off again. The rest of the people ran ahead, while I was behind with my sister Sommer. She misstepped, slid on the rocks, and cut her knee up pretty good. We made slower progress, which, I was actually thankful for; but sad Sommer got hurt.
I could see the top! The boys were already up there, and they posed for a picture. I was almost there… Yet it still felt like a long time to get to the summit. But I finally placed my foot on the top. It felt so good. To finally be on top, to see the view of the world around. And the best part was? It was all downhill from there!
Boys and Mormor on top We made it! Time to pose!
I don’t really have a spiritual aspect to this other than I need to get in shape. Not to look good or anything; but so that I can be ready for wherever God calls me. What if He calls me to be a missionary in the Himalayas? Or in the Amazon Jungle? Maybe He will call me to run a daycare! Whatever it is, I need to be ready.
So, to help ready myself, I’ve already climbed halfway up and down the hill in our backyard—TWICE!! (Baby steps… Halfway because I need baby steps…) I am trying my best to step up, and be prepared for the purpose God has for my life. What is God calling you to be ready for?
What a great revelation you had about experiencing the good, the difficult and the potential danger of hiking a mountain. But there’s always a prize at the destination. My favorite place to be. He’s got the whole world in His hands.
Yes! Once up top, you don’t want to come down!😊
Great article!
Yes we always need to be ready for whatever God calls us to!
P.s. At the beginning when you said *I died* I thought this was going to lead into a story about your heart somehow stopping or something. 🤣
Haha! I wondered if I would confuse people, but decided to keep my language.
